Things to do : Police Registration

If you rent a Chinese resident’s house, you must register with the Public Security Bureau (Police station) closest to your home within 24 hours of moving to your permanent residence. You should get a completed REGISTRATION FORM OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCE (yellow paper) with the official seal from the local police station.
Bring your passport and go there with your leasing contract and ask for a “Zan zhu zhen” to get your yellow paper. If you do not do that, you can be fined up to 500 RMB per day.

Note also that when you leave China and come back or move to a new living place, you have to renew this form.

Renting & VISA

Renting or buying a property in Shanghai does not require any specific visa. However, usually you will need to be renting for a period of at least 6 months and even a year though. So, make sure your visa will last long enough.

If you need your visa to be renewed during your renting period, EMOO can extend its duration from 1 month to 1 year. Check out our visa services section for more information.
